Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

On Sunday November the 10th, the SPF Team took part in the Timoru Soap Box Derby to help raise money for Movember. Timoru is an award winning group of mates doing their bit for Men's Health through Movember & having lots of fun on the way. Movember causes are close to all of our hearts. Some of us have fathers, grandfathers, brothers, husbands, friends, neighbours or colleagues who may need help and we were glad to do our bit for such a great charity/cause. All money raised by the event goes to NZ Movember, supporting Prostate Cancer & Mens Mental Health.

HOW DID IT GO?

With our lighting fast cart "Flash Drive" we were looking forward to the day of racing, unfortrunately the Friday before the race, DISASTER! Our steering mechanism completely sheered from the body of the cart during a test run! Thanks to some Kiwi inginuity and good friends we managed to get the cart repaired in the nick of time and lined up on the start line on Race Day with 50 other amazing competitors and carts. Everything was going well during our first run, we had a great push off the line and Kai Mao shot off down the course like a bullet from a gun! He steered the cart expertly over the jumps and was destined for victory untill... 1 foot from the line the front wheel collapsed and in true tortoise and the hare fashion we were overtaken on the finish line! We had 2 more runs throughout the day but Flash Drive was never the same and crashed on both the following runs to great amusement of the crowd! At least we were entertaining, giving the people what they wanted! We are proud of all our team for giving their all on the day and getting the cart ready in the build up to the event.

We had a great time and are already looking forward to next year, when we will be back, faster and stronger (with straight wheels).

For the time being you can check out the slideshow of photos from race day below!
